Celebrate Marriage february 9th - 15th
The California bishops invite all parishes to celebrate Marriage! This special day is a wonderful chance to radiate love and honor the beauty of marriage.
Why Celebrate Marriage?
Marriage Builds Society: Marriage is a sacrament, a cornerstone of society, providing stability for children and fulfilling our longing to love.
Marriage Benefits People: Married people and their children enjoy better health, finances, life satisfaction, and happiness!
Marriage Strengthens the Church: Married people are more likely to attend church and donate. Children from married homes are 78% more likely to attend church.
Heavenly Father,
We praise you and thank you for your great gift of the Sacrament of Marriage.
Help all married couples witness to its beauty through a life of love, joy, patience, and generous self-giving.
Help families to exercise faithfulness and mercy, to be one in heart, mind, and body, accepting children lovingly as gifts from you.
When family life presents challenges or is lacking in peace and understanding, teach us the beauty of forgiveness and bearing one another's burdens.
Strengthen our love so that it endures not only through the triumphs but also through the heartbreaks of married life. And bless our homes and our families so that others will see your generosity and faithfulness guiding our lives.
Deepen our communion at home and with the Church, so that we may radiate love as a living sign of everlasting hope.
We ask these blessings in the name of Jesus, our Lord.
Take a moment to contemplate. What do you remember about the moments before your wedding liturgy? Close your eyes and recall, with all of your senses, the sounds, surroundings, environment, and those by your side as you prepared to meet your spouse at the altar. Most of all, recall the thoughts that might have passed through your mind during those fleeting seconds on the precipice, before the reality of something new happened. The edge of one reality as it transformed into another–one fundamentally, sacramentally changed.
Re-experience these memories and dive deeper into a lasting love and the joy of new discovery with this at-home retreat. Focus on truth, goodness, beauty, faith, hope, love, and how to ensure it is unending, courtesy of the USCCB.
Pray Together Daily Unite as a family in prayer, to thank the Lord for his gifts. There are many ways to pray together. Begin with what works best for your family and try some new ideas too.
Dinner Table Topics At family dinner, bring your faith into the discussion and chat about saints, scripture and service. Encourage kids to be curious about the faith. If parents don’t know the answers, search the Catechism!
Join in Service Together Kids learn by example, and when you serve as a family, that experiential learning influences their faith.
Practice Hospitality as a Family Host a game night for families or invite young adults to dinner to experience the gift of loving, messy family life!
Talk to Kids about God’s Plan for Human Sexuality, Marriage, and Family When you talk, your kids listen more than you think (even if they roll their eyes). Tell your kids that God has a plan for their sexuality and about the gift of marriage.
